Accessibility Statement

This website, hosted by central coordinating partner King's College London, brings together reviews, recordings and commentary on everything that took place across 2016 under the Shakespeare400 banner.

The website is developed and maintained by King's Digital Lab (KDL); we want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, this means you should be able to:

zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen;
navigate most of the website using just a keyboard;
navigate most of the website using speech recognition software;
skip to the main content when using a screen reader;
browse the main web content without any readability issues;
listen to most of the web content by using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver).

We've also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

Non compliance with the accessibility regulations

Banner lacks description: The banner slick slider on the homepage is an embedded javascript plugin, which lack clear descriptions, that may be hard to understand and navigate for users who only use a keyboard; this fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.3.1 (Info and Relationships). We are looking at solutions to fix this.
Blog lacks description: The social media discussion form on 'Blog' and blog content pages can be difficult to navigate using just a keyboard for lacking descriptions, which fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.3.1 (Info and Relationships). They are embedded using a third party application, Disqus which we cannot change but looking at alternative solutions.
Incorrect semantic markup: Bold <b> and italic <i> tags used instead of strong <strong> and emphasis <em> tags so screen readers will not be able to detect. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.3.1 (Info and Relationships). These are added when using a third party application CMS editor, Wagtail, which we have no control of and cannot change. We have brought this issue up with the Wagtail team and they are looking at solutions to this issue.

We used Siteimprove Accessibility Checker plugin to assess compliance with WCAG and tested the above pages with built-in assistive technology for people who are blind or have low vision.
